My story starts with a dream.

Was it a dream to run a business?

No.

A dream to be a bookkeeper?

My younger self would say, "Heck no!"

I hated the thought of being stuck in on office day after day.

I could never imagine that life for myself so I pursued other things.

My dream is and always was to do things my own way.

I was a store manager!

I love talking to people and helping them solve their problems. This was a great opportunity to do both! I was so passionate about my work that customers would often ask if I was the owner's daughter!

I was a Zookeeper!

We used a skip loader to pick up the rhino poop and the local farmer used it to fertilize his farm. I always wanted to work with animals, I just wish someone had told me that you start working at 6 a.m.!

I was an Archaeologist!

If you've been to Petco Park in San Diego then you might have seen the artifacts discovered at the site during construction.  I was on the team in charge of cataloging, managing and archiving that collection!

and when it came time to settle down and start a family...

I became a bookkeeper!

I had no idea when I took that first bookkeeping job just how much it would impact my life. I had no idea that something that seemed so simple could become pivotal. As I mentioned earlier, this was not my dream. It wasn't even my back up plan but it was something that I embraced for the sake of my family.  I was lucky. Truly lucky. The lady who trained me was an amazing, smart, funny, and gifted accountant. She taught me well and I will be forever grateful to her for teaching me tricks, tips and skills that can only be learned from a great accountant.

I became a CFO!

I was working as a CFO when it happened.  I began to feel the pull to be an entrepreneur. I didn't know at the time that was what it was. What I knew was that what I was doing wasn't enough. It was boring being stuck in an office 10 hours a day. It was frustrating to care more about whether or not the books were right than the owner of the company.  I started to study more and more about accounting. I registered for a bookkeeping certification program and fell in love with the idea of helping more than one business owner AND with the idea of being in control of my time.

I fell in love with the work so when it came time for me to do things my own way...

I opened my own accounting firm!

Armed with years of expertise, a new certification and a passion to keep new business owners from failing in their first few years of business I registered my business and started advertising. I still remember when the first phone call came in. I was working at my CFO job and quickly made an excuse to leave my desk for the call. I was so nervous that my boss would find out what I was doing. I took a walk around the lake by our office as I spoke with my first client! That was all the way back in 2007. Virtual work was practically unheard of no one was letting their employees work from home. I was pioneering working from home while raising my little ones while working as a virtual bookkeeper.

There is something special about creating a life you've dreamt of.  It's even more exciting when your work helps people with the most important part of their business at the same time.

I named it Stress Free Tax Season but I don't do taxes!

Occasionally, I will meet a business owner looking for someone to do their taxes. They are surprised when I tell them that isn't what I do since the word "tax" is in the business name. My company motto is that when you are working with an accounting professional year-round, like I do, you should not feel overwhelmed about your accounting at tax time. People laugh at the idea of a stress-free tax season but my clients know that it isn't a joke. It comes from well maintained books and good business decisions. It is that simple.

You deserve a Stress Free Tax Season!

Having a stress-free tax season starts with rebooting or starting your bookkeeping, maintaining monthly records, and great communication with your bookkeeper. It also means you end the year with all of your accounting reports in a file for the CPA or tax preparer. You are confident because we have reviewed all of the data. You also know that I am available to answer questions or explain to you what your accountant just said!

I became a Profit First advisor and then I quit (but it's not for the reason you think!)

About 4 years ago, I was looking for a way to enrich the lives of my clients and help them increase their profits. One of my clients told me about the book Profit First by Mike Michalowicz and asked if I knew anything about. I didn't! But I soon found out that they had a certification program.

Cool! I love to learn new things and add them to my services.

When I was at the end of my certification process and thousands of dollars into their program I learned that in order to keep my certification I would need to pay a large monthly fee!

What? I was so disappointed. I wrestled with the idea of giving up on it entirely but I was already financially invested and couldn't see a way out of the situation. Instead of adding this certification to my toolkit like I had planned I ended up dedicating a large amount of my time to educating business owners about Profit First. I had a lot of fun doing it but I was only doing it in order to justify the fee I was paying for the ongoing certification. It pulled all of my focus off of my goal to coach business owners on how to do their own bookkeeping.

and then I gave myself permission to give up and went back to doing things my way...

I added online business coaching to my services!

One important lesson I learned when coaching about Profit First was that many of the business owners that came to me did so without any bookkeeping system what so ever.  Those that did have an accounting system, like QuickBooks, had accounting records that were so out of date that the information was useless to us as we tried to build them a profit plan. I started coaching business owners on how to DIY their own bookkeeping.

but that isn't the end of the story...

Make the move from hobbyist to CEO as you take control of your...

  • Business Setup
  • Back Office Tasks
  • Bookkeeping
  • Tools, systems & Mindset

Over time, as more and more solopreneurs, coaches, and course creators have entered the online space to start their own adventures, I learned that we all have one thing in common...

we are excellent at our craft but find it difficult to dedicate any time to the back-end office tasks of our businesses. We have left huge gaps and holes in the path behind us with our inattention to important tasks that we didn't want to do.

I understand this completely because I also run a business and have areas of my business that I would rather not look at or deal with. This is a problem because as we focus more and more time and energy away from these tasks they get bigger instead of shrinking. Making time and addressing them head-on is the only way to get them under control.

But where do we start?

Join my coaching program based on my signature Hobby to CEO Method!

I have compiled over 15 years worth of bookkeeping and business expertise into a signature method that helps you fill in the gaps and holes you created when your business took off and you didn't have time to research how and what you should have been doing on the back-end of your business. This framework was specifically developed for solopreneurs, online coaches and course creators so the you can simplify the process of building a solid profit-building framework for your business.
